Meriam Instrument’s new 350R Smart Manometer allows for cost-saving, accurate differential pressure measurement across Rotary Vane Positive Displacement “ROOTS®”-type Meters

The Meriam Instrument 350R Smart Manometer allows instrument technicians to accurately measure the pressure drop across rotary vane positive displacement meters. Designed in conjunction with a major mid-western gas supplier, the 350R is, for the first time, available to the general market.

To avoid the uncertainty caused by the pulsation associated with rotary meters, the 350R features special firmware designed to mathematically average the pressure readings. When the averaging feature is active, the 350R takes pressure readings over the user-defined period of time and, at the end of the test interval, displays the true average of the readings. This minimizes the effects of pulsating pressure and surges in flow, guarantying a consistent and operator independent test methodology. The end result is an accurate measure of pressure drop across the meter, and minimization of revenue lost through inaccurate billing.

The 350R is easy to use: Simply press the “start/stop” key to initiate the test and press the key again to stop the test. The 350R calculates and displays the mathematical average of the differential pressures over the user defined test period. The averaging feature, high resolution and accuracy make this meter an excellent replacement for glass manometers, mechanical gauges and expensive electronic products used to test commercial and industrial rotary meters.

Rotary Vane Positive Displacement Meters are used to bill commercial, large residential and small industrial accounts. Slow meters cost meter shop professionals money. Economically priced at $750, the 350R creates value with every use and can pay for itself within months with a single faulty large volume gas meter. The 350R is tailored for use in service lines with pressures to 150 PSIG — it is not designed for transcontinental gas lines.
